The "Townie"

Added on October 20, 2013 by Ryan Gilman.

We try to mix things up every once in a while and challenge ourselves to use different materials. The New York City area and other East Coast cities have many brick buildings. In our travels, we came across a brick town house that may have formerly been a firehouse or garage of some type. We made this for ourselves. It took 2 weeks to complete because we had to allow the brick to set before we could do more rows. All the bricks were dry fitted, and then removed. Mastic was applied to the plywood shell and then the bricks were placed onto the mastic one at a time. This is as onerous a task at it sounds. The windows and doors were each singularly cut acrylic pieces. We prefer acrylic because it is essentially maintenance free compared to other materials. The roof and crown-molding is composite plastic. Here are other photos.
